The origin of Feng Shui was in China and its fundamental theory is that people, places and things have energy. Feng Shui in English means “Wind & Water.

According to Feng Shui, placing a thing in a particular location or manner can create balance and harmony with the environment thus spreading positive vibes.

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are the five elements in nature considered to be the fundamental basis of Feng Shui. It is believed that these elements can contribute to creating a perfectly balanced environment.

The common man’s notion about Feng Shui is different then the actual concept of this art. People believe that moving around furniture or following a few rules while decorating their house is Feng Shui. But this is far from reality since the art of Feng Shui is much more profound then this.

If followed correctly Feng Shui can diminish the negative powers and danger in ones life and bring about a balance and harmony which increases good luck in the form of good health and success in life.

The art of Feng Shui generates positive energy which leads to positive changes in your love life, romance and family life. History has shown that a Child’s education too can be positively effective by Feng Shui. Over thousands of years, people have used this art to enhance the studying and concentrating power of children.

Work towards an objective and your hard work will bring you success! This has been a tried and tested mantra over the years. And if you team hard work with the power of Feng Shui you will experience good luck and success in your life.

The use of Feng Shui has been helping more and more people to get richer. However becoming millionaires would not have been possible if those people would not have had the will to succeed and put in equal amount of hard work.

I myself have experienced the positive change Feng Shui can bring in ones life. I discovered the depth of the knowledge of Feng Shui only when I started learning about it and it has enhanced the positive energy in my life.

Using Feng Shui remedies or enhancements to improve a particular environment, whether it is a house or a business, is an important task. The remedy or enhancement should blend with the environment leading to an almost perfect balance which then expands itself to the life and the environment of the individual.

Feng-Shui is an art that was developed over 3000 years ago. It is based on strategic beliefs over how a building or space is set up. It was developed because it is believed that wind and water is connected to good health and that land and nature are alive and full of energy. With this in mind, a chart was invented listing all of the major elements and their corresponding colors that represent good health and happiness. It is used around the world and is especially popular for businesses that are setting up their office spaces and for home use.

When people are styling their homes they often have a few methods for doing so. They can arrange furniture and items in a way that they feel looks nice and work for the space or they can hire a decorator who will map out a precise color plan and arrange the room accordingly. And people can use Feng-Shui to organize their home and space. In this belief, there are certain colors and items and the placing of furniture that will bring good luck and happiness into the home. Some decorators even base some of their planning based on these methods.

There are two main components of Feng-Shui elements; they are the compass and the Ba-Gua. The Ba-Gua is based on an octagonal grid and the compass is used to assess deep meaning inside a room, space or building.

There are five elements to Feng-Shui. They are; wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each of these elements has a corresponding color attached to them. Wood is associated with green and brown. Fire is together with red, yellow, orange, purple and pink. Earth goes with light yellow and sandy tones, light brown. Metal is a part of white and gray, and water is with blue and black tones. It is believed that color can be used to make a space stronger and more balanced. Creating a happy space is something that everyone desires when decorating an office or home space.

There are things to consider before adding Feng-Shui elements to a space. The first thing that needs to be done is de-cluttering your space. There is no point in applying the principals and beliefs if your space is cluttered and messy. Feng-Shui is all about balance and harmony, something that cannot be achieved with a cluttered kitchen counter or a bathroom with towels all over the floor. Providing good air quality is also important. There needs to be access to fresh air or an air cleaner to ensure that the air flow is good. And the lighting in the room needs to be appropriate, natural light works best for allowing Feng-Shui properties to run through them.

There are lots of decorating beliefs with Feng-Shui, to name a few, there are colors that have been known to add or take away certain emotions or elements. Dark blue can affect a person`s thinking, white is considered a color of death in Chinese belief, light greens are warm and welcoming, and red is good luck. In the bedroom it is advised that things be put in pairs to aid in marital bliss, it is also recommended that the bed always face the door to keep a good idea on the main entrance way of your room while you are sleeping. And in the office it is imperative that the desk or desks be facing a door to see who is coming and going. In the kitchen it is advised that your stove be in front of a door way or a mirror and that someone shouldn`t cook if he is in a bad mood.

As you move into the world of Feng Shui you will find that is not one simple system to apply. Over the centuries, different schools of thought have developed.

For example the “Form School” relies on a great deal of intuitive insight and places great emphasis on the shape and contours of the landscape. Next the

”Compass School” is more concerned with the magnetic effects of the earth’s gravitational fields. , the movement of Qi , and utilizes the eight trigrams of the I Ching.

Solutions within these schools vary as well, as if you were not confused enough already with the concepts and practice of Feng Shui. Within the Compass School, some practitioners use a compass to find their ideal orientations to determine the health relationships or career corners; while others calculate their personal lucky and unlucky areas according to their birth dates.

Each of these systems helps you work out which part of your home need to be balanced. With the help of the concepts of “Bagua” as well as finding your own lucky and unlucky directions. You can further work to balance your own home as well as your life and its directions and stability.

As you apply the concepts of Feng Shui and learn to look at the different approaches that the compass, you will find that these are interchangeable in terms of their shapes and that these are simply and merely different ways of depicting the eight compass directions. Of north, northeast, southwest and northwest and the areas of life that these directions govern.

The ideal site for Feng Shui is said to be the where the descending heaven qi meets the ascending earth qi. There is no hard and fast rule about the perfect site. However there are some general conditions that you can look for.

Generally halfway up a hill facing the sum is considered good feng shui because you will get cool summer breezes and warm winter ones.

Next the ideal Feng Shui spot for a house is called xue or shu. It has an open space in front, the “bright hall” or Ming tang, with four mythical animals or spirits surrounding it. The red bird is the distant front view; the black tortoise is the protective hill at the back; the azure dragon is to the left and the white tiger to the right. Ideally you should have a stream flowing in front of the sine because water is regarded as a source of food and means of transportation. It is also believed that the heavens qi descends down the hill and is contained by the water.

A Brief History Of Feng Shui

Feng Shui (pronounced as “fung schway”) literally translated means “wind and water.” It is an ancient Chinese art and science of placement and arranging objects and space within the environment so as to achieve harmony and balance. The object is promote and nurture the flow of good Chi (pronounced “chee”,) which is a Chinese word similar to “energy” in English.

Feng Shui is not simply a decorating style. In fact, it is a discipline with rules and guidelines that can be adapted to fit with many different decorating styles. Truly it is a belief system which combines many different religious, geographical, astrological, mathematical, and philosophical ideas, as well as aesthetic values.

The origins of the term Feng Shui have been said to come from the Jin Dynasty (265-420.) In the Burial Book written by Guo Pu, Chi rides the wind and stops at the boundary created by the water. Ancient Chinese believed in manipulating the Chi so that it was directed with purpose and not wasted. Since this art and science was based on the wind and water, the term Feng Shui was born.

Today, it is a widely held belief that all Feng Shui books were burned during the Qin dynasty (221 BC – 206 BC.) One of the most authoritative works on the subject was written by Huang Shi Gong and given to Zhang Liang during the latter part of the Qin dynasty. Later, in the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907,) Yang Yun Song and his disciples wrote several books on the subject. Those particular works are the most authoritative work used by all Feng Shui schools. Unfortunately, the books were very cryptic and used knowledge largely passed down through the oral tradition.

Feng Shui is also believed to be intuitive and derivable from our own common sense and our sense of what is natural in our environment. Eitel, a German Missionary in China in the latter half of the 19th century, wrote in his work, Feng-Shui, Or, The Rudiments Of Natural Science In China(1873), that the origin of Feng Shui is a belief system that is unique to the writings of Chu His and other writers from the Song dynasty (1126-1278.) Chu His is more well known for influencing Confucianism, and while his writings and commentaries may have become the foundation for Feng Shui, Feng Shui’s roots truly go back as far as original Chinese Philosophy.

By the mid 19th century, Feng Shui had become such a part of life that the Chinese government published all the materials necessary for use in the practice of Feng Shui. In fact, as English speaking settlers came to China in the mid 19th century, they had a difficult time adapting to the way of Feng Shui. Much like modern day contractors have to conform to building codes and other community rules and regulations, the English settlers had difficulties in construction and renovation because their design ideas did not conform to the Feng Shui principles, and were therefore rejected.

Further early introduction of Feng Shui to westerners did not go well either. When foreigners wanted to purchase land, and those foreigners were not welcome, they would be directed to land that did not lend itself to good Feng Shui. Early western writings on the subject of Feng Shui were equally as unkind. In 1885, one author wrote that “if any one wishes to see what a howling wilderness of erratic dogmatism the human mind can arrive, when speculation usurps the place of science, and theories are reverenced equally with facts, let him endeavour to fathom even the elementary principles of that abyss of insane vagaries, the science of Feng-Shui.”

Over the last few decades, many English books have been published on the topic of Feng Shui. They usually focus on interior design, decorating, architecture, or landscape design. Reception from English audiences has often been skeptical, particularly towards the use of crystals, wind chimes, fountains, and mirrored balls. Claims that Feng Shui can improve one’s life, finances, and relationships are dismissed by some as mythology and new age mysticism. Still, others in the west have adapted Feng Shui to their own lives and report overwhelming positive benefits.

Some people seem to have everything going in their way. It can be said that they have the “Midas touch”. Everything they handle or are involved with – every relationship, every business venture or relationship seems to turn to gold. Yet is a positive image, or does luck seem to follow these privileged people around. Is it the chicken or the egg?

Overall it can be more than said and emphasized that having a positive mindset and along with that the real intention and intentions to follow through with your actions and endeavors is the greatest magnet for success and popularity overall. It can be said that Feng Shui is much like liquid water. It’s all about starting motion, direction, movement and direct ion in the correct chosen manner and paths. Once you “prime the pump” of a well, water will flow incessantly and almost without much efforts on your part and parts. Before most drivers start their automobile most kick or punch the pedal to the metal a few times and in essence prime the gas pump of their car , so that they can depend that their vehicle will power up in a flash., predictably , and in a most powerful manner.

If you have ever used a pump handle to draw water, you will know that it works in the same way. Some of the time you actually have to pour water down the pump itself. In essence you are making an initial investment of precious water to get more and greater amounts of water down the line, in the future.

In the same way and manner your thoughts and intentions can be seen as an analogy to pushing downwards hard on the gas pedal , or pouring water into a pump.

It can be said that you are setting the stage for your Feng Shui to cry out and seek the vital kinds of energy you wish and desire for your eventual path down the road of your personal success – be it wealth, love, riches, friends or simple contentment in life. It’s all about focus – in the correct direction, directions and proper path. Focus and applications of your tools and powers that you intrinsically have or have come to possess.
