When it comes to the very principles of Feng Shui – Qi the life force flows like a river through all bodies and all cultures throughout our universe.

Many if not most cultures pervade that a universal energy – some times called Qi or Chi flows constantly everywhere. Whether it Qi (Chi) in India or Ki in Japan, prana or pranha in India it is all the same. This energy medium of chi flows throughout the universe and the earth just in the same way that it flows throughout the human body, and changes made by nature or humankind will vary its very course. Just as acupuncture, chakra balancing and shiatsu massage can adjust the flow of energy in the body, so can feng shui adjust the flow of energy around us.

Feng Shui literally means (the flow) of “wind” and “water”. The wind disperses the invisible life energy and the water contains it. When you practice feng shui you attract and cultivate positive energy or sheng qi (shung chi) and dispel or eliminate negative energy or sha 1i (shar chi)

Positive sheng qo meanders gently along curved lines while negative sha qo strikes quickly in straight lines. For the qi to be beneficial and nourishing, you need to keep it flowing – not too quickly and not too slowly. Sheng qi comes from nature while corners. Known as “secret arrows” generate sha qi.

Qi should be encouraged to enter a dwelling and its garden and to flow freely and slowly throughout the space. If it is blocked, it will become stagnant and destructive.

In heaven there is tien qi ( nian chi) or heaven qi , on earth there is ren qi ( rem chi) or human chi. Heaven qi is made up of all the forces that heavenly bodies exert on earth such as sun and rain. Earth qi is affected by heaven qi – too much rain will cause flooding, too little will cause plants to die- and then within the earth qi , each person has his or her own qi. The aim of feng shui is to keep harmony and balance between heaven, earth and human qi.

Feng Shui is also referred to as the study of the way of heaven and earth in relation to human. It can also help us choose a way of life and a place to live that is in harmony with our ren tao (rem dao) or the way of being human. The Chinese call this relations san cai (san chie) or the three gifts.

The Chinese believe that everything that exists has qi, and in turn, everything that has qi has yin (passive, masculine) qualities. Yin and Yang are opposites and complementary – one cannot exist without the other. Night does not exist without day, winter without summer nor shadow without sun. Similarly, each quality contains some of the opposites.

When you feel warm, positive and good about a place the Chinese would say that it good Feng Shui because the Yin and Yang are perfectly balanced. Feng Shui.

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese art of positioning objects in such a way as to encourage free flow of positive chi in our surrounding environment. Pronounced “fung-shway” it literally means “wind” feng and “water” shui. This philosophy is based on the theory that spatial orientation and arrangement in relation to the flow of energy and yin- yang patterns could produce negative or positive effects. Proper placement of furniture and other accessories in a room promote free flow of chi energy which n turn induces positive feelings, good health and good fortune.

In recent years feng shui has turned into a trendy fad with everybody from architects and builders to store keepers jumping on to the feng shui bandwagon. This could have something to do with the fact that everything Oriental is ‘in’ at the moment, and as everyone knows very well, Feng shui has its origins in China.

Moreover Feng shui promotes the less-is-more lifestyle that is fast catching on in the West. Suddenly all Americans are invoking the age-old mantra that Feng shui has been emphasizing on for decades – Simplify! Simplify! Simplify!

Clear that clutter. Throw out everything that has just been lying around in the corners of your house and has never been used. It occupies valuable space, obstructs the free flow of chi and you waste precious time cleaning and dusting something that is of no use to you. It drains your energy and evokes negative feelings.

Feel the positive vibrations in our room. Some things instantly make you feel good, while there are other things you could hate on sight. Keep the good stuff and place it in a prominent place where it makes you feel good. Don’t even try to get used to the things you hate. Throw it out. Just like that. Don’t hesitate. It won’t do you any good to hang on to something you hate just in case one day it may be of some use. It’s not worth it.

Keep your room spotlessly clean. Clean out every nook and cranny from the ceiling to the floor and all the windows and walls. While you are cleaning remember, if you come across more useless clutter- throw it out.

In the bedroom remember to keep everything in soft pastel shades that induce a soothing relaxed feeling. Bright loud colors create too much energy that may not be conducive to sleeping.

Do not use too much of white while doing up your house. According to Feng shui, white delivers ‘cold energy’. It does not envelope you in the warm and cozy feeling that you would want from your home. If using white is unavoidable you can take certain measures to counteract its effects. Place a lot of bright colored flowers around the room, hang bright cheerful pictures on our walls and try and have a few well-placed colorful curios and center-pieces.

Feng shui is not only being used in the home. In recent times it is becoming increasingly popular in the workplace too where it is used to encourage better working relations, productivity and most important profitability.

Success and Feng Shui. In life that we are, what we value and how we wish to be rewarded is not only different for different groups of people and personalities but also varies greatly at different points in our lives and with different perspectives and responsibilities.

So is it with the definition of, and perspectives of what success means to us. Yet what are the lessons of Feng Shui when it comes to creating, accomplishing and retaining success.

Yet what are the lessons and advice of the ancient Chinese science and art of Feng Shui when it comes to measures of success?

1) It never hurts to be prudent – that is being concerned or even fearful. The creator put these warning feelings in your heart for good reason and measure. Indeed when it came to feeling of guilt Woody Allen advised that “Guilt is a wonderful thing. It prevents me from doing every day things I have not even thought of or imagined yet.”

Everyone has fears. The issues are that when these fears become paralyzing indeed and keep from acting and carrying out your dreams and ambitions. Is anything holding you back at this point in your life? Indeed strange as it may seem many are even afraid of success itself. Strange is it not?

2)Always acknowledge your own accomplishments. It’s not being vain. If you accomplished a task or completed a goal why should you not be happy with yourself and even tell those loved ones around you.

3)Avoid getting advice –or the wrong kind of advice from misinformed know it alls. It’s a rarely discussed or designated line. Some will tell you “just go ahead” that if you “talk to too many people you will only become confused”. (And get nowhere). Yet in many cases proper preparation and the worthwhile advice of others can save you much wasted time, energy, costs and even grief.

Where is this fine line of knowing whom to ask for advice? It comes into the source of information. There are some know it alls and gossips who know or comprehend little. Yet there are successful people who you should take the time to ask, listen to and heed advice.

4)Delegate. One of the most important lessons in life is to know when and how to delegate. Do you think Bill Gates or Steve Jobs know how to make the products that their firms prosper with? Hardly not. They have learned the power of delegation that is of using other people to scale up your productive powers. Four hands it seems do the work of 20.

Sure you may be the type that wants to do all the work yourself – as you have high standards, are highly efficient and productive and as well know the job is done and done well.

Still you cannot do it all – well not for long. If other people can help you in accomplishing your goals and dreams and do 85 % as well as you – wouldn’t that be more than a good tradeoff and bargain. Learn to delegate is the lesson and message of life in 2011.

Success is not only what you make it, but also what you envision as success at your point in life and with your current priorities.
