Using Shape in Feng Shui Gardening

By Linda Binns

If you have taken the time to learn the basics of feng shui, you know that you need to incorporate all five elements of nature – fire, water, wood, metal, and earth – to achieve and restore balance within your living space. However, incorporating these elements in their natural states can prove a bit difficult, especially if you live in an apartment or other environment where others have a significant degree of control over what you place around your living area.

Instead of using the natural elements to balance your energy, try using the shapes associated with each element to help improve the balance in your home. Shapes can be powerful substitutes for the actual elements, if they are used in an appropriate manner. Here’s how you can represent each of the elements through shape:

Fire: This element is represented by cones, pyramids, and triangles. You can use stone or ceramic pagodas, which have pyramid-shaped tops, to represent fire in your yard. Also, you may be able to convince the owner of your apartment to let you plant small pine trees, which have conical shapes that will create a warm and vibrant atmosphere.

Water: If you can’t have fountains or ponds, consider using flowing shapes to represent water. Flags, banners, and mobiles will create the flowing shapes necessary to create water-like flowing energy. Also, you can use thing like hanging plants and wind chimes, which have downward-flowing shapes, to bring water into your environment. Water shapes will help increase the flow of positive, invigorating energy into your home space, and improve the relationships within your home.

Wood: Columns and striped objects represent wood. If you can’t use plants or trees to bring the stabilizing qualities of wood into your living space, try using striped pillows on your lawn furniture, or a bamboo fence, to create this energy. You will find that this is particularly useful for bringing balance and harmony for city living environments, where cars and motorcycles may vastly outnumber trees and shrubs.

Metal: Round, octagonal, and arched objects can bring the element of metal into your environment. Gazing balls and circular stepping stones are great for adding metal to an area of your yard. Arched trellises can also help to bring in this element to balance your home’s energy. You can use these shapes in areas where wood and earth elements are dominant to bring balance to your space.

Earth: Square and octagonal shapes can help you incorporate the element of earth into your surroundings. Square stepping stones, rectangular paving bricks, and flower boxes can all help you use shape to bring the earth element to your landscaping. This is particularly important if you live in a very urban environment where natural earth is not visible in great quantities.

As you can see, there are many representational ways you can use shape to help bring the balancing effects of the elements to your living space. Find what works for you and what is pleasing to you visually, and let that be your guide for creating a harmonious, balanced space for you and your family.

Feng Shui: The Power Of Light

By Frances T. Russell

Feng Shui and light. In its simplest form light and illumination represent energy. The power of light. The power of energy. Overall natural lighting is the simplest Feng Shui. Natural lighting is best. Anything else is not natural. It is synthetic and not of real and substantial origins or power. Light represents good. Light represents power, strength, honor, integrity, enlightenment and education.

A room, home or person without full and natural light lives in darkness. It is as if that person or their family live in moral darkness without the benefits of the power of qi and Feng Shui.

Thus in terms of Feng Shui and the power and benefits of Feng Shui natural lighting is always best. Artificial lighting is an add on – an accessory. Artificial lighting can help to adjust the qi in dark and very difficult spots in your home, office or residence. Take great care when employing artificial light that this type of lighting, when employed, creates the same balancing as well as balanced stabilizing effect as natural light from the great sun of our heavens and universe – our “sun”, Work greatly to have the same and similar effect of natural light in your adjustments of artificial, man made light, with the basic natural light of your environments and environs.

How can this are accomplished. First things first. Walls should be brightly colored – paint should be light and neutral colors. The same with wallpaper coloration choices. You would be amazed at how much light a dark color wall can absorb compared to lighter and whiter colors. Even the color of growth and renewal, green, was made by the creator to absorb as much of the growth enhancing light as possible. Use lighter coloration choices. Next I f possible, then the surface of the painted or wallpaper should be flat, to best reflect the light energy – not of mottled or dimpled textures.

The walls themselves should be clean – free of dirt, grease and grime. A simple washing of walls can do great wonders in increasing and improving the natural lighting levels and energies to specific areas.

It can be said that “harsh” overhead lighting can be more than oppressive. Think of the lamps and lighting in prison movies and even big box stores or even abusive employment agencies. What do they all have in common – harsh overhead single focused light and lamp fixtures. On the other hand table mounted can and do work to create soft pools of light. Rooms lit by table mounted lights, carefully placed, seem to have soft pools of light. These rooms jump of qi. A feeling and balance and overall comfort and relaxation results. On the other extreme if you are saddled with a dark corner or sunken living room or a room planned to be sunken and solitary in nature then a carefully as well as strategically placed upward facing floor lamp or lamps can more than help stimulate qi or those dark and distant areas. In dealing with a “yan” area then candles can be added to add and enhance the flows and retention of vital yang energies and qualities.

Lastly in garden areas lighting can be use in these garden areas to balance shape, even out the surface and surfaces of the land and of course bring life and breadth to any and all dead spots and areas. Vital qi forces will just rush in.

It can be said that a man without education lives in darkness. A room , residence , abode or business office without full or balanced light and lighting lives similarly in darkness – in a position of lack of power , honor , integrity , luck and prosperity. Take the time to balance and enhance light, the type, balance and level of light to your living and working areas. Feng Shui !

Feng Shui Tips For Beginners

By Amit Bhalla

Feng Shui tips can guide a novice in knowing about this concept and also practicing it perfectly. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese remedial method, which works out positively, by creating harmony in the environment where one works and lives. To a beginner, following the feng shui tips and feng shui in general, may seem to be confusing, but once they starting doing it, they will start getting the hang of things. Feng Shui encompasses many things, so you need to get rid of all the confusions, before you practice this. It will best for you, if you could talk to an expert in this field and then perhaps, you could go about following all the tips. We must not neglect certain things that are prescribed by feng shui, or this can cause problems for us. According to this remedial practice, whenever there is a disturbance in balance of the atmosphere in and around us, this can have bad consequences on us.

The basic idea of feng shui is to help in achieving the balance in the environment, so that things can work out for you, favorably. Feng Shui tips are just a few clicks away from you, you just need to find out a site on the web that offers these tips and you can know all about this. According to feng shui, windows represent opportunities and that is why all the windows in your house or office must be kept open as much as possible, so that you can see all the opportunities that are coming your way. This may seem to be a basic tip that everyone knows, but generally you will find that many people do not follow this. You must make sure that there is plenty of natural light coming in to your room; so that the room is airy and has lots of light throughout the day.

Have plenty of greenery around your house, as plants represent health, vitality and growth. All the plants must be healthy and colorful, to create a pleasant atmosphere; remove all the dead and rotten plants that are present around your house. Plants have the capacity to alter moods and depending on the kind of plants you have around you, your mood will fluctuate accordingly. Always keep the toilet seat down in your washroom, as this is to avoid letting the positive energy from going down the drain. Do not place any electronic items in your bedroom, as this tends to create a negative vibe in the house.

Feng Shui tips are nothing out of this world, nor are they rocket science, that one cannot understand and implement them. Generally, the tips are something as simple as keeping your house clean, keeping the windows open, letting more natural light come in to your house and other simple things like that. Feng Shui tips, when not followed correctly or in the improper way, can have adverse affects, so you must be very careful about this. Feng Shui tips, if implemented properly, can work wonders for you.

Feng Shui In The Home – Is It The Right Style For You?

By Michael Holland

The use of feng shui in the home is the source of some debate for many would-be home decorators. Some people believe in its healing powers while others think it’s nothing more than the lastest hyped up fad.

However, if you are like most people and don’t have a strong opinion either way about this subject, then allow me to shed some light. Below is an explanation of what feng shui is and what it represents. But more importantly, you’ll be able to determine if it right for you and whether you should you use feng shui in the home.

Feng shui in the home can be a source of relief for some people and disbelief for others. Some home decorators swear that balancing the five elements (wood, water, fire, metal and earth) creates warmth and harmony.

One key aspect of this balancing act consists of using colors and shapes that represent the elements and rearranging furnishings to complete the effect. Other decorators, however, are more skeptical and see feng shui in the home as just hogwash. They don’t believe it is neccessarily to have all the blancing in place to create a beautiful room.

So, which side of the fence do you come down on? Does feng shui in the home have any appeal to you? If so, are you drawn to it because you feel that you need balance in your life? Or do you simply seek a new creative twist for decorating your home? Either way, feng shui may still be worth trying.

Feng shui stresses creating an enivironment of harmony in the home. By melding the five elements together in a productive and harmonious cycle, you just might enjoy their pleasing characteristics. Feng shui advocates say that, if your home is dominated by only one or two of the elements instead of having them all represented, the home’s level of “Chi” will be weakened. This, in turn, could result in problems for those living there.

So what do you think? Does this have any appeal to you? If not, no problem, but you could be missing out on something that could also be a lot of fun.

Whether you’re looking for spiritual counsel and view feng shui as a possible answer, or if you’re simply tired of the way your home looks now and desire a more flowing design, feng shui could help. Of course, some feng shui advocates believe that, if you are not seeking balance in your life, you should bypass feng shui decorating all together.

There’s certainly no reason to take that advice. While feng shui may not serve its original intent, it can still result in absolutely beautiful rooms. The rooms in your home can flow seamlessly and seem more uniformed, instead of looking like a messy garage with items and accessories all jumbled. The great thing about feng shui is that it can help bring a finished and polished look to rooms that seemed disorganized.

So, is feng shui the right style for you? It your choice, but I think it’s more than worthy of a try.

What is a Feng Shui Bagua is Used For?

By Lynn Lee

A Feng Shui Bagua is one of the essential tools for practitioners to determine the Feng Shui of a place. The Bagua is divided into 8 directions, similar to that of a compass. After the division is made, you can see that there are 9 areas on the Bagua map, in which each area represents a different aspect of life.

Knowing the fact that each of the 9 areas represents an aspect of your life, you can use the Bagua map to determine what went wrong in the Feng Shui of your home. As such, you can also make the necessary amendments to enhance the quality of your life.

Below is a list of the 9 areas of the Bagua map and how each area affects an aspect of your life.

Wealth and Prosperity

The area of hsun gua on the Bagua map represents wealth and prosperity. Pay special attention to your kitchen sink as it symbolizes the flow of your wealth. If you encounter any financial problems recently, you should do a clean up of your kitchen sink as a dirty kitchen sink might block the flow of your wealth. Call for a plumping service, as clogged water pipes will affect your wealth flow as well.

Fame and Reputation

Fame and reputation occupies the Li gua of the Bagua map. If you find that someone is gossiping about you or passing bad remarks about you, it is time for you to take some action.

You will need more “fire” energy to improve your relationship with others. One simple thing that you can do is to wear some accessories that are yellow in color. Yellow color emits cheerfulness and friendliness, which will help to improve your relationship with others.

Relationships

Relationships lie on the kun gua of the Bagua map. If you encounter any relationship problems, it is time for you to make some adjustment to your bedroom, especially your bed. Adding a bamboo wind chime to improve the flow of positive energy (Qi) should be good enough.

Families

The jen gua of the Bagua map represent families. To maintain harmony in the family, the living and dining room should be well decorated. It should be spacious enough for family gatherings. There should also be products such as crystals to enable a smooth flow of Qi in these gathering areas.

Health and Balance

The center of the bagua map represents health and balance. To maintain good health, there should be a smooth flow of Qi throughout your house. The flow of Ying and Yang energy should be well balanced to ensure good health.

Creativity or Children

Creativity or children lies on the Dui gua of the Bagua map. Brightening up your workspace with more Yang energy sources will inspire you with new ideas. If you want to have a child, you must first improve the flow of Qi in your bedroom. Having better lightings and putting a few crystal balls beside your bed should do the trick.

Self-understanding

Self-understanding is represented by the Ken gua. An object that affects this area of your life will be the window. The window affects your self-perception. Therefore, it is vital that you clean your window regularly because a dirty window might mean that you may not be able to see things clearly.

Career

The kan gua symbolizes your career. The front door and pathway of your house will affect your career. Most of the time, people will hang auspicious Feng Shui products on the door to ward off the negative energies (Sha Qi).

Helpful Friends

Helpful friends will lie on the area of chien gua. To become acquainted with more helpful friends, you should try to get rid of any Sha Qi that is circulating around you. This Sha Qi prevents you know knowing new people. You can wear a crystal accessory such as a crystal bracelet to get rid of the Sha Qi around you.

By understanding what a Feng Shui Bagua is used for, you can take action to prevent bad things from happening If encounter any problem in your life, you can use the Bagua map to figure what area of your person or your house you need to change to improve the situation.
