Feng Shui, translated as “wind and water,” is perceived as representing two symbols of the natural flow of nature. Feng Shui practices attempt to recreate this natural environment in which the life positive life force or energy known as “chi,” flows as freely and easily as wind or water. An ancient Chinese art, Feng Shui is believed to increase the flow chi in any area, large or small. Its intent in enhancing the amount of chi, releasing it to flow freely throughout any area, permits any practitioner to achieve their personal goals. For several centuries, people have applied the principles of Feng Shui to attract success in many areas, including in the kingdom of the heart and in the business world, and to win friends.

Traditionally, the school of thought known as Feng Shui has been practiced only by experts. Originally, more than 3,000 years ago, it was fashioned by a spiritual master, a student of nature and the spiritual realm. In order to maximize the positive characteristics of an area, he designed a set of basic rules directed at increasing positive energy. The end result of his dream lay in the construction of homes, workplaces and other buildings that would be beneficial to the occupants, helping them to invite good luck and positive fortune while supplying them with the ability to make the most of good luck when it arrives. His wish is still alive and well today.

In China, the acceptance of Feng Shui was swift. It quickly gained popularity and credibility with certain people becoming skillful experts in the subject. This knowledge and positive reception soon spread to other countries, becoming world wide in scope. Today, many homeowners and businesspeople traditionally consult Feng Shui experts when decorating rooms or locating a business. These consultants can draw on several thousand years of tradition and investigation. Using any number of techniques, a Feng Shui an expert can alter the energy of any particular space or area.

Over time, several different schools of Feng Shui have become apparent, each with its own unique goals and approach. Feng Shui For The Outdoors

People landscape and decorate even the outdoor area of their residence for various reasons and purposes. Among the cogent reasons and strong forces that drive the homeowner to improve and landscape the yard is to make the idle area functional and useful. In doing so, certain specific outdoor design concepts and styles are implemented and applied in order to give the backyard its best and elegant look. This endeavor to give the outdoor space such amazing and gorgeous look is performed not only for the purpose of beauty and functionality, but also and most importantly for fortune and good luck. Although there are some non-believers of good luck and fortune coming from the harmony of nature and surrounding, one can always give it try since beside there is nothing to lose but has something to gain should it prove itself to be effective in attracting good vibes and fortunes to one’s life. This is not magic. This is called feng shui.

Doing feng shui for outdoor landscaping and decorations follow certain similar rules as those applied in interior design and decorating. Some of these rules provide that certain areas of your garden or outdoor landscape exude positive energy, good luck, and fortune to every particular aspect of your life. Hence, it is believed by feng shui experts that the southernmost corner of the outdoor space or garden attracts recognition and fame. The southwestern side governs the strong matrimonial bond and its prospects and marital happiness while the westernmost corner gives abundant offspring and fertility. Helpful people and mentors are governed by the northwestern part of the area while the northernmost corner of the garden governs those professionals who are very much concerned with their careers. Family relationships and the well-being of every family member such as their health is found on the easternmost corner of the garden while the southeast should be as green and lush as possible to effectively attract wealth and prosperity. This circular arrangement of plants, objects, and furnishings outdoor is patterned to the feng shui bagua that is believed since the ancient times to have brought great things to those who believe and apply such principles.

From the foregoing discussions, it is apparent that the placing and locations of every object, decoration, plants, and colors as part of the outdoor landscaping and decorating must be in perfect harmony with each other as well as with the wind, water, fire, and earth elements of feng shui. These elements must necessary be complete at the area since each of them feeds the other thus giving way to the perfection of the promise of feng shui, such as, good fortune, strong spirit, happy and prosperous life, both for the person and the family. Although these things remain to be a belief for some, one cannot deny the fact that their popularity and following have reached all corners of the world. Simply put, feng shui would not gain such worldwide popularity if it were not for its remarkable success and truthfulness as regards the effects of harmony of all the elements that attract positive luck and good fortune.

The Feng Shui Of Trees

Trees are important life source and vital members of outdoor community. Often called the “lungs of the Mother Earth” trees take the carbon dioxide, that we and the animals of the world and give us life saving oxygen. Trees also prevent groundwater runoff and soil erosion. It is obvious that trees are a crucial part of out Earth and treasured members of our landscape family.

Besides being beautiful, trees provide us with shade, beauty and a wonderful place to climb or swing from. Fruit and nut trees give us good things to eat, on less tangible level, trees also exert a powerful influence on the feng shui of our homes. For this reason, it is important to look at trees surrounding your home. What else do trees have to offer us? Let us look at the feng shui of trees.

First Trees give excellent support. Planted at the rear of a house trees provide important “mountain support” at the rear of a property. Ideally all home are situated on a lot with a rise at the rear of the property. If this rise is missing , or if the landscape is flat , or if there is nothing taller or larger than your house or building vital support can be missing, you may have to struggle in key areas of your life. This rear support is a critical element in feng shui. Planting a row of five trees across the back of your property can simulate this missing support.

Next it is a good idea to plant bamboo for the best luck of all. Bamboo is considered a tree although its habit is more like that of a hedge. At the back of a property, bamboo gives solid support. At the left or right side of the property, it gives considerable dragon energy, at the front of a property, bamboo gives very auspicious energy for wealth and opportunity. The front is considered the most auspicious planting location. So consider planting bamboo in front of your home.

Flowering plants bring reward and rewards. Orange trees are believed to bring wealth and are especially beneficial when planted in the south east corner of the garden. Lime trees are also helpful and bring wealth to stimulate love. Planted in the south pomegranates and apple can also bring recognition luck. Plant peaches in the west for excellent and lasting children’s luck and family happiness.

Plant trees to raise beneficial chi. If your home our business slopes down on the left side (as you look out of your house) is low there, trees can be planted to raise the chi. This puts the auspicious “dragon” more a more in control rather than the tiger (or right) side of the house. Be sure to have trees planted on both sides of the house to keep the household home harmonious. Trees on the left control the husband’s anger and trees on the right control the wife’s anger.

Feng Shui is not a dish best served warm with some oyster sauce. It is the art of tuning you in with Mother Nature, so that she may notice you, stroke your head gently and impart upon you all of nature’s secret energies of wisdom, love, power, luck and wealth. People all over the world, including Chinese people have turned into the more antiquated recesses of history and have been using feng shui to enhance their prosperity and ensure their longevity. This is some literature for those not in the know, a feng shui for beginners so to speak – instructing all on how to use feng shui to enhance your luck.

Feng shui is using the power of colours, arrangement and design structures to make any living or working space sort of a tuning fork or sponge that can absorb as much good energy as it can to give you prosperity, luck and wisdom. Adversely, you could be stuck in a situation where the reverse is true, bad colours and odious arrangements make for the ‘scarecrow’ effect – driving away ‘Chi’ or good energy.

What we are concentrating here is on luck and I will explain a bit on that as well. Ancient masters of old China, well schooled in the arts of feng shui have divided luck into three bite sized and packaged portions. ‘Tien’, also known as luck of the heavens, ‘Ti’, a luck spawned from earth and ‘Ren’, the best luck of all, created from the tools of humanity and the individual.

Now Tien is the preset luck, it all depends on time of birth, location and family history. Ti and Ren however are entirely up to you. Ti or Earth Luck is the one you have the most control over. This luck is resonant with the energies of nature and they flow within the world we live in at every turn. This is also where feng shui is most applicable because these are the very energies or ‘Chi’ that you must tune to enjoy a lifetime of good luck and prosperity. The totality of the approach is this, what colours you use and how your house is arranged will decide how much and how often these energies will call on you and make themselves comfortable in your abode.

What you put in your house is also very important. Dried flowers, fake plants or anything with thorns or sharp jagged edges may just cut a swathe into the good energies and chase them away. Feng Shui identifies eight segments of life – career, relationship, health, travel, children, family, education and fame. Each of them has a place in any living and working space and anyone can use what they have or Feng Shui specific objects like crystals and stones to augment and control the amount of ‘Chi’ travelling through the house as well as balance the yin (masculine) and the yang (feminine) energies of the house – maintaining a balance that is ideal for wealth, luck and prosperity to grow.
